Question for Latter Day Saints?
Q. This can be for anyone really, but I ask it to this group because we have the same beliefs. First, we believe that we are created in the image of God, and Second, God doesn't make mistakes, so how do you explain this... I am at a loss. I don't mean to offend anyone. I ask the question because God obviously doesn't have two faces and if we believe that we are all created in his image, this child isn't, this is beyond the normal realm of deformities. I am not doing a good job at describing what I am feeling/thinking. I am not saying handicaps are a problem or a mistake, that is part of life, I know that, but this is different, how many people since the beginning of time have 2 faces??

A. With respect to genetic deformities...that is part of the natural world we live in. It's the same with people with six fingers on one hand, or asthma, or nearsightedness...God doesn't have any of those things, but they are still in the image of God. Simply put, I think you are interpreting the meaning of "created in the image of God" too narrowly. It doesn't mean we should all look EXACTLY like him. We are created in his image...much like a child is in the image of his/her parents, i.e., same basic form, but not EXACTLY the same.
